After making my first serious short-film out of passion in 2005 at the age of 19, I then devoted myself to my engineering studies and my professional career.
Fifteen years later, I decided to immerse myself entirely in the cinematographic universe that I liked so much since my earliest childhood. Like a lot of filmmakers, I take care of the screenwriting, the directing and all the other stages of my self-financed productions.
My goal is to one day be the screenwriter and director of a produced feature-length motion picture.
The idea came from real events experienced or told by those very close to me. My own experience with lockdowns is also infused into the storyline.
It is indeed this common experience lived by many people that inspired me to write a story describing the slow downfall of a person affected by the deprivation of freedom that destroys her psychologically. I also wanted to explore the consequences on her married, family and professional life.
Based on what happened in France in November 2020, the story was written in December 2020, shot in January 2021 and the post-production took place until April 2021 to deliver the movie in the heat of the moment as the subject is very contemporary.
Based on what happened in France in November 2020, the story was written in less than four days in December 2020. Then it was shot in less than five days in January 2021 and the post-production took place until April 2021 to deliver the movie in the heat of the moment as the subject is very contemporary.
There had been a lot of luck around the filming. The main actress (Lydie Misiek) was found by chance as I was searching for a boom operator. Besides, I found this operator (Julien Streiff) thanks to the script supervisor (Alexandra Battereau) that I hired thanks to the owner of a big location (O'Bella Ciao Restaurant) used in the film that was introduced to me by a friend! Crazy, right?
Very few people had the chance to see the movie yet. Indeed, there was only a theater premiere with the movie crew. Therefore, all the current external reactions are from festival juries. We hope to be able to release the film soon to everyone. There are some big expectations from people discovering our film through social networks or festivals results.
Anyway, one thing that has blown away the audience is the exceptional performance of the main actress, Lydie Misiek. Her layered and weathered portrayal of the main character is the first thing that comes to mind to the people that have seen Against my will.
I've got about fifty more or less story pitches already written. Some are just ideas, others are for a more distant future as they are very ambitious.
In the short term, I may put short films aside to start an ambitious thriller/sci-fi mini web series on Youtube. The story was written just before Against my will and I think that it could be a good candidate for my next filming project this summer.
